Where we Combine ideas and approaches towards Identifying, understanding, and treating rare Inherited diseases
Every medical student is taught, when you hear hooves, think horses and not zebras. This implies you should always consider common diseases (i.e. horses) before contemplating rare diseases (i.e. zebras). But if you're in the Serengeti, zebras are the norm, and our lab lives in the plains of the Serengeti! We're interested in rare inherited diseases with a particular focus on identifying novel disease genes. We apply a variety of approaches including genetics/genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical, and computational tools to various model systems from C. elegans to patient derived material. For more information on what we work on, please explore our science.
You can also get a glimpse into the type of atmosphere we try to cultivate in the lab by looking at our lab philosophy.
Meet our great team of zebra hunters and learn more about the different types of lab members. We also strive to recruit an intellectually diverse group of scientists with different backgrounds and thought processes as exemplified by our scientific complementation groups.
If our work interests you, and you think you would fit into our lab culture, please go to the join us page for more information about possible opportunities to join us on our zebra hunting expeditions.
Our lab is part of the Department of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. We're located in the Ross Research Building, Room 632B.
